School Improvements
Here are some of the ways we have worked to make Pip alyatjara School a good place for children to learn. . .

SACSA Frameworks

The staff spent the first six weeks of term trialling the new curriculum framework. We were supported by Barry Hajisavva who released staff while they worked on the new curriculum framework.

Thank you Barry.

We are proud to be chosen to be a trial school for this project. We hope our feedback will help develop a framework that will take notice of the concerns of Aboriginal students.

New School?

The school has sent in an Educational Brief to Keith Beal. This document talks about the educational needs of the students.

The new buildings can then be designed to help the children learn and the teachers, AEWs, secretary, office workers and others do their jobs better. The new buildings should also make the school an attractive place for the children and the older students.

School Council Meetings

This term the school Council met twice. Issues discussed included ASSPA funding, sale of the school bus, the school plan and facilities.

The council talked about the school being moved between Kalka and Pipalyatjara so that the students can‘t run away.

They want both the communities to choose a School Warden paid by CDEP and a big meeting to talk about what the School Warden‘s job will be. They also want a canteen so the children will stay at school and not run away to the shop.

Any community members with other ideas should talk to Emily, the Anangu Coordinator, or any of the Council members, Yangi Yangi, Laura, Milyika, who were at the meeting.

Special Services team visits Pip

Claire Loades, Ann Marriott and Renata Davidovic came to Pipalyatjara School in Week 6.
Renata is a guidance officer, Ann a speech therapist and Claire a specialist in deaf education. They came to help a number of students at our school and also provide support and ideas for our teachers and AEWs.

Some of our children missed out on getting help. We hope they will be back when the team visits next term.

Visits

We had many visitors this term.

Di and Judith who helped with the SACSA trial and assisted with teacher‘s planning.

Helga who worked with staff on literacy.

Joy who did a lot of support work in the library with Pam.

Ann and Juanita who assisted staff with resources and literacy process and also aided with staff data collection.

Tuppy who came to help our teachers with extra time to do many jobs.

Thank you to all these people.

Reporting to parents

At the end of the term the teachers met with parents at the school as well as visited families in the community to show and talk about the children‘s and older student‘s work.

This year the staff have been working at ways of making this friendlier for parents. Parents have been telling us what they want to know about their children. We hope we have shown that we have listened well.

If you missed seeing the teachers about your student's report because you were away please come to the school at any time and arrange for a meeting.
