Manta wirura kanyilpai is looking after the country.
by Debbie Watson and Anna Young*On the AP lands there are lots of land management projects working. Some of these are:
Cleaning rockholes. In lots of homelands and out in the bush some old people, young people and land management people came and cleaned up the rock holes. Lots of rock holes had dead camels, dingoes, and birds in them and animal kumpu and kuna. All these things damaged the water holes and nobody can drink the water. They went with shovels, crowbars and wira as well and cleaned the dead animals, rubbish and the dirt out of the rock hole. Then they covered it with sticks to make sure the camels couldn't drink and animals couldn't fall in. They found dead bones in the water holes. It is good to keep the rock holes clean so the people can drink and go there and stay for a holiday or the weekend. It is good to take care of the land and to show the young people so they can learn and know their country and culture and the dreaming about the tjukurpa rockholes. Windmill project. The windmill project always comes to the communities and homelands and they check up on the windmills. They make sure the camels don't break the windmills. If the camels break the windmill there will be no water left Anangu to drink and for planting trees. Sometimes when they break water goes everywhere and camels make a mess of the land. Patch burning. In the homelands or out in the bush some Anangu always do patch burning. They do patch burning to grow new grass and to grow new bush foods. After the fire and rain new things grow. Animals come to eat new foods. Patch burning makes the country look good and clean. They are careful where they burn because they don't want to burn the special cultural places. A long time ago people travelled with the fire and they burnt country on the way. Now people use special trip for patch burning.
