Dear Children
Thank you for sending me the frogs and the tadpole. You will be delighted that they are all very fit after their long journey, and are now living in a luxury aquarium here at the University.
The frogs are of a kind known as Main's Frog or Main's Burrowing Frog, and its Latin name is Cyclorana maini. It is named after a Western Australian zoologist, Professor Bert Main. As I am sure you know, this kind of frog lives deep underground for many months, and only comes up when it rains heavily. It is found in Western Australia, the Northern Territory and South Australia.
We know virtually nothing about which kinds of frogs live in your area. So I thought that I would write to ask you to help me. You will be able to let me know how many different kinds there are.
Because you are so close to the Northern Territory, I have posted you a book on the N.T. frogs. Yours will be more like theirs than those in S.A.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
So, thank you Angas, Tjilpi and Delwyn for catching the 4 frogs from Kalka. You will be able to show RoseAnna, Herbert, Ashella, Asha, Joshua, Kanari and Cliff how you did it.
Kindest regards,
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
